  Cairn to Cairn
Sponsored by Dow Corning & Tri Star Trust Bank

Saturday 11/13/10 7:30 PM

Cairn to Cairn makes a distinct and powerful impression wherever they perform. Their high level of artistry, charismatic manner, and passionate delivery puts them in the highest regard among presenters. I have had the pleasure of hosting this capable trio at 'Two Way Street Coffee House' in Chicago and would recommend them highly to venues both large and small.

Cairn to Cairn:
Kelly McDermott, flutist, vocals, percussion
Terry Farmer, guitar, vocals, composer
Rob Crozier, bass, vocals, percussion

After 17 years spent performing in orchestral and chamber ensembles as a classical flutist on the east coast Ms. McDermott has returned to her native Michigan and her Irish roots with Cairn to Cairn. She has found an important venue for her passion, researching ancient Celtic ballads from Wales, Galacia, Brittany, Scotland, and Ireland. Ms. McDermott's explorations find her studying hundreds of tunes which provides the group with the essential raw materials for new growth. In the end we have a one of a kind "gem" a very old tune renewed with scintillating modern textures and pulsing rhythms from around the globe.

Terry Farmer contributes to the group his poetic wit and rock-n-roll electricity. His finely honed guitar technique infuses Cairn to Cairn’s music with excitement and drive. After studying classical guitar at the University of Denver and the Cleveland Institute of Music Mr. Farmer has refocused energy toward his talents as a songsmith. His catalog of work provides us as listeners with a look into his scope of vision that defies genre, revealing a depth of spirit and authentic passion.

Bassist and multi-instrumentalist Rob Crozier offers his rich bass sound, percussion, and vocals to extend the group’s sonic palette. On his own he focuses heavily on jazz and improvisation as his mode of exploration.
